Learning Resource for Week 30 April 26-30
Message from Teacher Dave & Teacher Jessica:
We hope that you all are enjoying the warm weather. As a friendly reminder, please remember to wear a facemask whenever outside or in public. For those families who wish to seek out vaccinations, please contact Teacher Dave or Teacher Jessica for assistance.
As we mentioned last week, our four program-wide expectations are Be Courageous, Be Curious, Be Compassionate, Be A Community. This week we will be focusing on how children can be courageous.
Children are courageous when they:
- Try new things for the first time
- Ask questions
- Make a mistake and try again
- Share their own feelings
- Stand up for what is right
In this week’s Learning Resource, you’ll find an activity to help your child learn about Being Courageous! Let us know how it went!
If you are looking for a vaccine location look here : https://vaccinelocator.doh.wa.gov/
Parents ! I have attached some resources for you to review. They provide an overview of what children are learning through certain activities.
Here are some additional activities for this week:
Language / Literacy
Play-Dough Snakes – For this activity, kids can roll small balls of dough into long snakes and form letters by bending and joining the snakes together. You can practice doing all the letters in the alphabets with the wiki stix alphabets cards and/or your child’s name.
Story
At Neighborhood House we have the opportunity to work with some amazing teachers. Teacher Laura made this week’s video, and with her permission I have shared the video of her reading “Pete the Cat” . Ask me for the password if you don’t already have it!
Enjoy !
Art / Writing
Book Making – Children have so many stories to tell, and only need help writing or drawing it all down. Fold paper in half and staple at the crease to make pages. After the story is drawn or written, go back and read it to the child so they can illustrate each page. This simple activity builds confidence, self-esteem and literacy skills. You can find a mini size book or a big white book that has empty pages from the school supplies given that you can use to create your own story!
Fine Motor Skills: Nature paint brush – With the weather warming up, plan on spending more activities to do with the kids outside. Things you will need: paint, paper, cup of water, nature paintbrushes. You can easily find small/short twigs around your home to use as paintbrushes. You can bring out some paper and enjoy the nice weather by having your child explore their creativity and imagination with paint and their brush. If you do not have paint you can use cups of water on the sidewalk that will dry and disappear in the sun.
